The VA Martinez Chronic Dialysis & Sleep Program is a 12,000-square-foot specialized care facility designed to deliver renal therapy and sleep diagnostics for Northern California’s veteran population. Completed in 2022, the project introduces both newly constructed and renovated space within the existing Martinez VA campus, providing in-house care that had previously required external referral. The program features a state-of-the-art dialysis suite, private treatment rooms, sleep study suites, and dedicated support spaces—all designed to meet the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare delivery and infection control standards. Executed with minimal disruption to adjacent clinical services, the project enhances veteran access to complex chronic care in a single, coordinated setting. Its successful delivery reinforces the VA’s long-standing commitment to improving veteran health outcomes through modernization and specialty care expansion.
The facility is now fully operational and supports a growing regional demand for in-house services that emphasize convenience, patient comfort, and continuity of care. Phased implementation allowed the campus to remain functional throughout construction while upgrading systems to support energy efficiency, ADA compliance, and future adaptability. Special attention was given to infection prevention and privacy, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for both patients and staff. The program also supports telehealth consultations and interdisciplinary collaboration, helping veterans manage multiple conditions within a unified care model. The project prioritized health and sustainability through upgraded HVAC systems, LED lighting, and water-saving fixtures. Infection control was a design priority, with the inclusion of HEPA filtration, antimicrobial materials, and touchless technology.
